Hey there, Who is that in the forground? What a blessing to be around such awesome creatures. Like a garden to a gardener - they must keep you centered!
Quoting palmettobug53: THERE'S A BLOB! THERE'S A BLOB!
HEAD FOR THE HILLS!
ACK! ACK!
LOL I just got back from the hills! Had fun, so I would not mind a turn around. Hope all is well with you Bug. Have not been getting around the blog as much as I would like.
Oh and to be in the hill, a.k.a. mountains! T'would be delightful... its August, and it is hot!
Was outdoors for about 1 1/2 hrs, on boat, thought I was going to have heat stroke. Got to the dock, the poodles and I ran to the house for a bit of A/C, both poodles are spread out on the cool tile... hmmmm, maybe I should join them!

Yikes - poor pups. It must have been hot, for those boat-loving dogs to run inside! The mountains were great - was just a quick trip though. Destination Destin in October!
Where in the hills did you go? It's been years since I've been up there. I'd probably be shocked at how things look up there now. It was still pretty much wilderness back in the 60's. You could drive on the Parkway during the week in August and hardly see another car. A roadside stand or two. We always packed a picnic lunch, as there was no place to stop and eat. Gatlinburg or Cherokee catered to tourists but not like they do today.
Quoting palmettobug53: Destin? You could meet up with Code, if you do!

We did not go far - Chimney Rock - a nice change of pace from the Lowcountry. Just a quick detour before going to Charlotte for Carolina Panther Fan day. - Now that was hot! Next year we will be using Asheville as a base from which to travel the Blue Ridge - looking forward to that. The Blue Ridge Parkway is still pristine. We will not be going as far as Gatlingburg. However, I am lobbying for a quick excursion to Harrod's Casino in Cherokee. I have never set foot inside a casino. Should be a hoot.
KEH - October is my absolute favorite time here along the coast- the weather is perfect, lower humidity, warm temps and the water is still warm enough to swim in. Be sure to keep us updated!

A quick trip to the Mtns... this time of year is something to be thankful for! LOL
Some of the areas have gotten so touristy, but I still love Chimney Rock... mostly I go home to NE TN and stay on the back roads and off the "beaten path"... Gatlinburg - ARGH! Masses of humanity, traffic jams and the "same ol' chain stores" selling the "same ol' crap" made in China....
I prefer the little towns where you can find the "homemade stuff"... Home cooked foods, Home-made quilts, Home-made ointments, Hand made arts....
Geez, now you've got me "mentally" planning a trip home to go shopping! LOL
We used to go to Chimney Rock, Caesar's Head, up in that area.
My maternal grandmother lived in Greenville up until the late 60's or early 70's. We would go up for a week every summer. We usually would pick a day, pack a picnic lunch and pile as many relatives in the car that we could and head out for a day trip.
I've got a few pictures of me, my brother and my Gramma on top of that old tower that used to be up there at Ceasar's Head. Scared the bejeebers out of me, climbing the stairs; they rattled and clanged something terrible. I was always afraid they'd fall off the tower, with me on them. The view from the top was really cool. You were supposed to be able to see 4 states from up there on a clear day.
OMG, Bugg, I had forgotten about Caesar's Head! Memories are flooding in! LOL We used to go over that way a lot... had a grandparent in Asheville, and we had to go to races all around the area...

We would also stop by someplace call Sliding Rock. There are a number of "sliding rocks" but I think this is the one in NC, near the Parkway. It was always so cool and shady and the water was freezing cold! LOL
There was another place we would visit. It was this whole hillside of exposed rock with a huge drop off on one side. It was at least the size of an acre, if not more. I'm not sure what it was called or where it was. Somewhere within a day's driving distance of Greenville. I can't really remember; I'm talking about a good 40 years ago!
Had two little girls on the board yesterday, one was about 7 the other 9 yrs old. They had a blast, both were begging parents for a YOLO Board of their own. *mom & dad ready to kill me! LOL
Hope all is well in your world and you have a great weekend.
You know, I have never given any thought to the fact "Cape Verde" was a place where people lived... I guess I always thought it was a deserted island. Thanks for the pictures.

Gamma Who knew! I am geographically challenged. Have learned more geography here on the blogs, than I ever learned in school. Hmmm... or maybe the world has changed the much - not the same globe at all :)
Geographically challenged? I don't think so KEH. :) You'll be finding your way to our little piece of paradise from yours (awesome as well) soon. Plans changed since you are coming, and I will see you soon!

BEACHES ARE GORGEOUS HERE!!!!! Barely any Tourista's!
AURASURF REPORT/GULF COAST Monday 7am update We surfed some small fun waves last night before dark*. Winds have calmed back down and it's 1ft or less and flat this am. Maybe it could bump back up later Monday with the seabreeze. Then a slightly better chance for surf Tuesday afternoon as we should see breezy NW winds and a possible thigh high wave at N County late in the day on the incoming. Beyond that, beautiful WX for Wednesday and Thursday and flat conditions. Another front will approach the area Sunday 10/4. Too early to call, stay tuned. Weekly Outlook- Hallelujah! Best forecast since April! Bust a cap in one of the worst WFL summers in recent memory. Summer will end this week as two fronts make it through the area. The hot, humid airmass that has plagued us for 4 months will be kicked out and replaced by dry beautiful WX mid-week. Your going to want to spend some time outdoors after this one. As for surf: We may see a wave Monday or Tuesday afternoon at the best front spots but nothing too ridable with this front. Just better WX on the way finally! Enjoy! Weather Almanac 9/28/09: Huge pattern change as the summer air-mass gets kicked out of Florida, Gulf temp is 87 degrees.
