Wow! what a fun weekend in Northern California.
Shots from Ocean Beach

As usual, courtesy of SurfHumor.com
This weekend's waves came as a lingering Northwest swell pulsed up and down, with Saturday seeing hollow, but smaller surf while Sunday notched up the size a bit with a little more friendly conditions. Monday morning showed some promise, but a high tide and smaller than expected waves were a bit of a letdown.
The Outlook
The swell already began to pick up this morning, with waves in the head to slightly overhead range reported at the beaches. The swell will pick up in earnest tonight, bringing North and Central California solid double overhead waves for the next couple of days. This swell comes courtesy of a low in the Gulf of Alaska. This storm is not nearly as intense as the one that brought our XXL swell the other weekend, but expect to see some big waves. Unfortunately conditions will be less than ideal with onshore winds on Wednesday and Friday. Lighter winds are in store for Thursday morning, so there should be a brief window there to go out and catch some bombs! Friday the wind switches out of the south, so places that can deal with the south wind and either knock down the size a bit or are able to hold it should be working pretty well.
Weekend
The weekend isn't looking too enticing for Northern California but heading down to Santa Cruz could be a good call with the north winds and large swell. The shorter interval of this swell will keep it from wrapping into the Monterey Bay as well as it could, but top spots should see some overhead waves.

I Usually write about California, but I think there are probably a lot of folks jonesing for some East Coast info...Before I give the east some attention, lets focus on how crazy California is.Mavericks This Past Weekend Look at how many people are out there! 10 years ago who would have thought one of the gnarliest waves around would be as crowded as Lowers or Linda-Mar.Anyway... The East Coast. We have a pretty good setup for waves over the next couple of days, with...

What a weekend! The o'neil Cold Water Classic in Santa Cruz sawSolid sets rolling through Steamer Lane all weekend. At one point on Saturday afternoon, what looked like a 15 foot 10 wave cleanup set caught both competitors inside, and forced the contest organizers to move the competition further down the point to Indicators. The action wasn't limited to just the competition though, Pleasure Point was doing its thing with solid double overhead sets rolling through...

Good I can go down and watch the waves in peace.Surprisingly little has been hyped about this weekends swell, other than here of course... With the waiting period for Mavericks open, thats a bit of a surprise. That said, the swell is already beginning to show alon...

This weekend's swell lingered longer than forecast, with solid overhead + waves continuing into Tuesday morning. Tuesday Morning at SloatThat's me surfing at Ocean Beach.photo from Surf HumorThe weather was typically gorgeous for November, with warm air temperatures sunny skies and offshore winds. The water is starting to get a bit chilly though, and I was cold, even in my super hi-tech new wetsuit. Late fall is a great time of year for San Francisco, we tend to s...
