Looking at the rgb loop it seems pretty intense. The WUndermap is showing radar returns in the area - smoke?

They've got it at 1500 acres, one injured FF, 400 homes threatened, and evacs over a pretty large area. Also, it says 60mph winds!

The answer to that is "Yes, yes there is". Does the syfy (pka scifi) channel do this? No, no they don't! It hasn't been scifi in years. Mostly horror (of the B-movie sort that rich and mike like so much, lol) and wrestling. Oh, and a little "reality" programming thrown in for kicks.

I did record Stargate: Universe last night, hoping against hope. I caught about 7 minutes of it and already found something to make my eyes roll, lol. We'll see how it goes.

Happened to click into the Mt Wilson cam this eve just as the full moon had peeked over the mountains - they'd turned the cam east, apparently to catch it. How cool is that?

Had an encounter of sorts with Mr. K this morning. I heard him doing his thing, at top volume, and went outside to take a look. He was flying nearby with first one, then the other, of the local red-shouldered hawks. The hawks circled low and Mr. K was riding above them. Very cool view.

The Sheep fire is the name of the fire that calpoppy mentioned last night. I think we've had one of those before... I guess they run out of names, eventually.

Anyway, it's up on inciweb as it is within the San Bernardino National Forest, though in the San Gabriel mountains.

4 homes gone, the entire town of Wrightwood evacuated, 3500 acres burned, 10% containment, gusty winds keeping the planes on the ground today, so far.

Smoke was very visible on the rgb loop earlier and heading almost due east. Clearly the windspeed was high, but the humidity is up, too.
Now, that loop shows not so much smoke, which looks good.

calpoppy - it looks good today. They're lifting the evac orders for Wrightwood, having made an effective stand outside of town. Awesome, those guys and gals.

They were forecasting a cutoff low and look! It's there! Right off the coast, just as the models forecast. I know, it's hard to believe, lol.
Haven't read the forecast discussion today so don't know what they're saying about what it will do... but it looks pretty on the swirly loop :)

I'm going to come in here and whine before finding something more productive to do.

The computer buying thing didn't go off as planned. I spend way too much time on these things and it often causes problems. Well, solutions, too, LOL, but in this case, I promised mom I'd order her computer today because I've been putting it off for longer than she feels is necessary ;)

I was looking at two setups - one from a local shop and another online. I had used the online tools to "build" the computer I wanted and then compared it to the local build.
Okay, so, hours of learning or relearning what certain parts of a computer do. Trying to figure out if this mobo or that mobo would be "better". Checking the graphics card to see if it will be compatible with my crazy monitor (don't want to go through that again).
Got it all figured out, decided today to go with the online build instead of the local (better price, better performance), go back to the website to order it, and... it's NOT THERE!!! The basic computer that I started with is nowhere to be found on the site. This is since YESTERDAY!11!!

Of course, the company keeps east coast hours, so I can't call and find out until tomorrow.

I am so dead.

And then I had a flat tire.
No, really. And waited an hour and 10 minutes for the guy to show up. Yes, I could have changed it myself in that time but that's why I have AAA, isn't it? To save my back.
Not to have a glitch, or "miscommunication", as they termed it.

Hmm, another friend suggested I take the list from the online store back to the local shop and see if they'd match it.
Also, your method of computer (and car :)) shopping is just what I've done, with the same local shop, the last two times I bought a desktop.
This time... I don't know. They don't seem that into it, lol.
Well. I'll worry about that tomorrow.

Right now, I'm having trouble typing due to uncontrollable shivers - I'm such a wimp about cold, anyway, and standing around with only a light jacket on while waiting for the tire-changer... may need to go get something warming (and, possibly, dulling) and bury my head in a book. I've had enough of reality for one day, thank you very much.

GG - I suppose cold is relative, huh? It was 51 when I got home last night and that's cold in my book.
Last night the low was 45 degrees. Not artic cold but well within my own definition, LOL
I was holding out on using the furnace, too. Yesterday I cranked it up in the morning, just to blow the dust off, so to speak, and it was oh so nice :) I'm afraid I had it on this last night and again this morning. I feel guilty but, hey, at least I am warm and guilty.

As to your question - lol, it depends on where you are. I think restaurants are the worst for over-using the a/c. Luckily(?), SP is poor, so hardly any businesses use a/c much, if at all. In fact, most places don't even have a/c.

I was in Camarillo a week or so ago, it was in the upper 90's, and every place I went into was freezing, so I get what you're saying. I'd rather not have such a drastic difference between interior and exterior temps.

Still, it's wise to carry a sweater or something around any part of coastal Cali - never know when the dreaded marine layer will arrive and suck all the heat from your bones ;)

I have just heard about Google's Project 10^100 and voting ends tomorrow! There are 16 projects to choose from and I guess it would take awhile to read them all but, wow, such a neat idea that I think it's worth it.

Computer update - SHORE WAS RIGHT of course :)
It took longer than I'd have liked, but, I'm getting what I wanted plus a free upgrade to a better graphics card (because they couldn't figure out whether the cheaper one will support my stupid monitor's res, either).
Because of the time lost in placing the order, it won't be here until Thursday, earliest, and that stinks, but I really liked the folks I spoke with and am happy with the choice. So far. We'll see what sort of trouble it gives me when it gets here.

ssigg - I guess we've got the unseasonable cool weather this year. Extending the pool season sounds good, though! :)
