In this picture is Copernicus, bottom round area. Going up left, large area is Mare Imbrium. In 1959 USSR landed Luna 2 at the 3 o'clock area and Luna 17 in 1970, 9 o'clock area. Mare Serenitatis is at the top right. The Moon being at 98% Waning Gibbous, I took many, many pictures at different magnification settings. Using my 2000MM Celestron Telescope, barlow lens and extenders, I pushed the optics to it's max. I like to share some of these during the next few days. Did not crop these close-up pictures or use any filters. In the large round plains named Mare Crisism is the Luna 24 Landing Site of 12/18/07. Around 5 O'clock within Mare Crisism. This picture includes Mare Serenitalis, bottom left. At 2 o'clock Russr-Lunna 21 and Lunokhod 2 landed in 1973. The picture of the bottom of the moon with the circular depression is called Tycho. Our surveyor 7 landed in 1967. in the area around 11 o'clock location. Ralf.
Damn, those are nice *huge* clear pix of the moon. I can almost make out a little alien giving me the finger (probably about that recent rocket-thing...), that's how clear they are!
Any chance you can get a clear shot of crater Ukert on the next full moon? 8)
So did you get permission from NASA to use the shuttle? I sure hope so if not they are gonna be so mad at you for taking it without permission. LOL! This is a great series of shots. A little grainy but I'll tell you it's really cool to see the moon up close like this.
